BTS: Suga is preparing for military service
Suga, a member of BTS, one of the world’s best K-pop groups, will have to leave the group for a certain period of time.
After Kim Seokjin (Jin) and Jung Hoseok (J-Hope), it’s Suga’s turn. According to a statement made by Big Hit Music, Suga is preparing for military service:
“We would like to inform our fans that SUGA has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement,”
“We ask you for your continued love and support for SUGA until he completes his military service and safely returns. Our company will spare no effort in providing support for our artist.”
As in many countries, men in South Korea have to fulfill their military service. According to South Korean law, this duty must be completed between the ages of 18 and 28. Military service lasts between 18 and 21 months.
Suga is 30 years old, why hasn’t he completed his military service so far?
South Korean law allows for some benefits for certain professions. These includeclassical and traditional musicians, athletes, and ballet and other dancers “if they have obtained top prizes in certain competitions.”
The members of BTS postponed their service until age 30 because of their careers, and time ran out for Suga.
